Port Sunlight was founded in 1888 by William Lever, who created the village to house the workers of his nearby soap factory, Lever Brothers. Port Sunlight differed to other industrial model villages at the time as William Lever wanted to provide sanitary, affordable housing and good working conditions for his employees.

Today Port Sunlight is a conservation area that is historically, socially and architecturally unique. It is a home to more than 2,000 people and is filled with architecturally significant buildings, monuments, memorials and an award winning museum.
